The 22nd Annual Holiday Meal

On December 24, the Davis Food Co-op joyously invites you to the Holiday Meal, a free event at the Veterans' Memorial Center Multi-purpose Room (14th and B Streets in Davis) from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.

The Meal is designed for people who:

  • don't have a group of family or friends to visit,
  • who may not have enough food to eat, and
  • who would like the pleasure of sharing the Holiday season with dozens and dozens of their neighbors.

We use a number of volunteers in the preparation and clean up for the meal; we always have more than enough people to actually serve the meal. The signups for volunteering at the Monday 12/24/2007 Meal became available the Monday after Thanksgiving (11/26/07).

The Holiday Meal can always use desserts provided by generous volunteers. To donate a dessert, please drop it off in the Multi-purpose Room between 1 and 4 PM on December 24th.

If you are interested in donating, or have questions about this year's Holiday Meal, please contact Seth McOmber by e-mail [smcomber(at)davisfood.coop], or by calling (530) 758-2095 - 8 - 47.

  Thanksgiving?

People occasionally ask if we're going to sponsor a Thanksgiving Meal again this year... We never have, and the chances aren't very high we ever will. (The day before Thanksgiving is the biggest single sales day of the year for pretty much every grocery store in the United States. We're a little busy!)

Davis Community Meals served free meals featuring traditional turkey with trimmings, at St. Martin's Episcopal Church on Hawthorn Lane, on:

  • Tuesday, November 20, in the evening
  • Thursday, November 22, in the afternoon.

Davis Community Meals can be reached at the Cold Weather Shelter at (530) 753-9204
